Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently remove oxide scale on a hot rolled steel sheet at a high speed by treating the steel sheet in a hydrochloric acid pickling soln. having prescribed acid and ferric ion concns. at a prescribed temp. CONSTITUTION:A hydrochloric acid pickling soln. having 4-15% acid concn. and 0.5-18% ferric ion concn. is prepd. and heated to 50-100 deg.C. A hot rolled steel sheet is descaled by treatment in the heated pickling soln. After the descaling, the spent pickling soln. contg. an increased amt. of ferrous ions is treated with ozone to oxidize the ferrous ions to ferric ions and hydrochloric acid is added to prepare a regenerated hydrochloric acid pickling soln. This regenerated hydrochloric acid pickling soln. is used, further regenerated and recycled.
