Abstract

PURPOSE:To record and reproduce data with a remarkably small bit error rate by obtaining a superior magnetizing pattern with symmetry, by setting a current on an erasing head corresponding to the current on a write/readout head. CONSTITUTION:The write/readout heads 4F and 4R to write and read out recording information for a recording medium and the erasing heads 5F and 5R to erase both side edges of a recording pattern on which the recording information is written at the time of writing are provided. The currents IW1 and IW2 that flow on the erasing heads 5F and 5R are set by an erasing head current setting circuit 13 corresponding to the currents IE1 and IE2 on the write/readout heads 4F and 4R. Therefore, it is possible to realize the symmetry of the magnetic flux generated from the write/readout heads 4F and 4R with that generated from the erasing heads 5F and 5R. In such a way, a difference between an erasing current and a write current can be reduced, that, it is possible to record the magnetizing pattern having a satisfactory symmetry in practical use, and to improve the bit error rate remarkably.
