Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable high-density storage by carrying clock information on a recording medium, and providing a data discriminating circuit which discriminate data read out by the clock information and a circuit which determines writing timing. CONSTITUTION:One or more clock information tracks 2 and 3 are provided with heads 5 and 6 for reading clock information in addition to a head 7 for a data information track 4. Data read from the data information track 4 is discriminated 11 by a data selection instruction 12 and the clock information to output data 13 and a window signal 14. Writing timing is determined 15 by a write data signal 16 from a host system and a write data strobe signal 17 and a data window signal 14 to drive the head for the data track. A read/write switching circuit 18 connects the terminal of the head to a readout amplifying circuit 8 or a writing circuit 15.
