Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the utilization of a positive electrode of an alkaline manganese battery by insularly embedding carbon particles having a mean particle size ratio to MnO2 particle of 10<-1>-10<-5> on MnO2 particles in a range of 0.5-2% of the total weight, mixing carbon particles having a mean particle size ratio to MnO2 particle of 0.5-10 to the carbon-embedded MnO2 to form a positive mix, and using the positive mix in the battery. CONSTITUTION:Carbon particles having a mean particle size ratio to MnO2 particle of 10<-1>-10<-5> are insularly embedded on MnO2 particles in a range of 0.5-2% of the total weight to form an electronically conductive network on the MnO2 particle. Carbon particles having a mean particle size ratio to MnO2 particle of 0.5-10 and having small surface area are added to the carbon- embedded MnO2. By using carbon having good contact interface with an electrolyte, drop in open circuit voltage caused by mixed potential is prevented and the amount of an electrolyte can be reduced. A battery having good electronic conductivity and low resistant polarization is obtained and the utilization of a positive electrode is increased.
