Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium which decreases output changes, is stable in error rate and is suitable for short wavelength recording by disposing a fine particle coating layer on a high-polymer film and providing the laminated body of either of Ti or Cr and perpendicularly vapor deposited Co-Ni-O film thereon. CONSTITUTION:The fine particle coating layer 2 is disposed on the high-polymer film 1 and the thin film 3 of either Ti or Cr is formed thereon by a high-frequency sputtering method or electron beam vapor deposition method, etc. The Co-Ni-O film deposited by evaporation with nearly the perpendicular components is provided thereon. Since the intra-surface orientational property of Ti or Cr is strong and acts on the Co-Ni-O film, the characteristics as the intra-surface magnetized film constituted of the perpendicularly vapor deposited columnar film are assured. Since the columnar particles obtd. by the perpendicular vapor deposition are hardly dislodged in spite of receiving the strong sliding with a head, the demagnetization by adhesion of the magnetic powder to the heat surface is substantially obviated and the error rate is stabilized.
