Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a hydraulic shock absorber which may vary a spring characteristic according to a stroke position by providing an orifice in a control tube of the absorber using an air spring and a metal spring in combination and varying a discharging resistance of a compressed air. CONSTITUTION:An inner tube 2 is slidably inserted in an outer tube 1, and a control tube 3 having an orifice 5 communicating oil chambers B1 and B2 is fitted through a control piece 3B around the inner tube 2, thus forming a hydraulic shock absorber. In a compression stroke, when an oil level in the oil chamber B1 reaches the orifice 5, a discharging resistance of air from the oil chamber B1 to the oil chamber B2 is increased, thereby increasing a resilient force of an air spring. Furthermore, a flow resistance of a hydraulic oil passing through the control piece 3B and the orifice 5 is increased with an insertion speed of the inner tube 2, thereby increasing a damping force.
