Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce fresh water by means of an economical apparatus which obviates the need for a heating equipment, etc., to artificially evaporate sea water by continuously producing fresh water from sea water by evaporation at a low temperature, with the upper space of an evaporation tower kept vacuum. CONSTITUTION:An evaporation tower 1 of a height of about 12-13m is installed in a straight position on a sea water tank 2. The sea water is supplied to the upper part of the evaporation tower 1 by a pump 5 through a water pipe 3 which is installed within said tower in a straight position and which serves for two purposes of water supply and heat exchanger. A vacuum pump 6 is mounted at the top of the evaporation tower 1, a suction pipe 7 therefor is provided in communication with the upper part of the evaporation tower 1 and an exhaust pipe 8 is connected to the top of the water pipe 3 and, through a plurality of capillaries 4 in the heat exchanger 3 and then through the bottom thereof, communicates with a fresh water tank 10. In other words, the fresh water is continuously produced from the sea water by evaporation at a low temperature, with the upper space of the evaporation tower kept vacuum. Therefore, unlike the various conventional methods, this method obviates the need for a large-sized power plant, offering an economical facility in which only the evaporation tower and the power of the water pump and vacuum pump are sufficient.
