PURPOSE:To stabilize rolling operation and to improve product accuracy by calculating the power balance from actual consumed power at each stand, comparing it with the target balance and correcting the plate thickness between the stands and the circumferential speed of each roll corresponding to the balance. CONSTITUTION:Each rolling stand 1-N are provided respectively with pressing devices 11-14 and rotating speed controllers 41-44 and controlled by an arithmetic and control unit 100. After the rolling mill starts, the voltages, currents and rotary speeds of driving motors 31-34 and the observed values of each plate thickness sensor are inputted into the unit 100 to calculate the actual consumed power balance of each stand. Then, the roll opening of each stand and the rotary speed of each motor are operated according to the deviation from the target power balance to correct the plate thicknesses between the stands and the circumferential speeds. When such operations are repeated, the target power balance is achieved, the rolling operation is stabilized and the product accuracy is upgraded.
