Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce reflected return light by inclining a light incident end face of an optical waveguide, against the surface vertical to an optical axis of the optical waveguide which is formed in a light incident element, and also, inclining an optical axis of an incident light which is made incident on its light incident end face, against the optical axis of the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:An optical axis a1 of a laser diode active layer 11 is shifted from an optical axis a2 of an optical waveguide 16 by an angle phi, and an end face 17 of the optical waveguide 16 is polished optically and obliquely by an angle theta against the vertical surface of the optical axis a2 of the optical waveguide. In such a state, by allowing the optical axis direction of an incident light immediately before an incidence of a light incident element, to coincide with an optical axis of the light incident element, after its incident light is made incident on the end face of the light incident element and is refracted, optical coupling is executed. In such a way, the quantity of reflected return light from the end face of the light incident element can be reduced without deteriorating the coupling efficiency to the light incident element.
