Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the chance of clogging of the molten metal tap hole by suitably setting back the front edge of the bottom wall which corresponds to the molten metal tap hole disposed in the bottom of the melting furnace, and expanding the side walls of the molten metal tap hole outwardly like a fan. CONSTITUTION:The front edge 5 of the bottom wall 4 which corresponds to the molten metal outlet 3 disposed in the bottom 2 of a melting furnace 1 is suitably set back, and the side walls 6 of the molten metal outlet 3 are expanded outwardly like a fan. By this constitution, the bottom surface which significantly affects the fluidity of molten slag in or around the molten metal tap hole 3 can be eliminated or shortened substantially. Therefore, exposure to temperature reduction or fluidity reduction can be reduced, resulting in a substantial reduction of clogging of the molten metal tap hole 3. Further, even if the slag coating 7 is formed thickly on the side walls 6, an opening can be ensured large enough for molten metal discharge, and, because it provides an insulating effect for the molten slag, the molten slag can always be discharged stably.
