Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable adsorption of a large amt. of several kinds of basic substances in a short time to a small amt. of adsorbent, and to enable, particular ly, adsorption of a basic substance having a relatively large mol.wt. such as amines, etc., by using an adsorbent produced from type III Si pyrophosphate. CONSTITUTION:Type III Si pyrophosphate is produced by allowing SiO2 to react with large excess of phosphoric acid at >=350 deg.C, or by heating previously produced I type Si pyrophosphate with a large excess of phosphoric acid, etc. Said type III Si pyrophosphate has 1.5 max. acid strength and >=4.0meq/g acid quantity, having high adsorptivity to not only ammonia but also to amines having bulky molecular structure, having also high adsorption capacity and high initial adsorption velocity for many basic substances. Moreover, said adsorb ent is not decomposed nor degraded when it is heated at <=700 deg.C, so the adsorp tion capacity is not impaired.
