Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fine powder, by adding a hydrolase to a silk protein solution prepared by dispersing liquid silk protein in a silk gland in water or regenerated silk protein solution obtained by dissolving silk fibers or cocoon fibers in an aqueous solution of salts and dialyzing the solution and drying the resultant precipitates and supernatant liquid. CONSTITUTION:A silk gland is taken from the body of a silk worm and washed to remove only silk gland cells and provide a liquid silk protein in the silk gland. The above-mentioned protein is then dipped in distilled water to remove silk sericin and the obtained protein is dispersed in distilled water to afford an aqueous solution of silk fibroin. Raw silk obtained from a silk worm is boiled in a solution f sodium carbonate to remove sericin and the resultant scoured silk is dissolved in a solution of neutral salts, dialyzed to remove the neutral salts and afford an aqueous solution of regenerated silk fibroin. alpha- Chymotrypsin is then reacted with the above-mentioned aqueous solution of silk fibroin or aqueous solution of the regenerated silk fibroin to provide precipitates and supernatant liquid, which are then separated and respectively dried to afford the aimed ultrafine powder of the silk protein.
