Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cellulosic fiber supporting an insoluble ferrocyanide in the fiber and having an ion exchange ability by reacting a cellulosic fiber having a carboxyl group content within a specific range with an aqueous solution of a ferrocyanate. CONSTITUTION: This cellulosic fiber is obtained by reacting a cellulosic fiber containing 0.1-5.0 mmol/g amount of carboxyl groups with an aqueous solution of a metal salt, then sufficiently washing the resultant fiber with water, subsequently reacting the fiber with an aqueous solution of a ferrocyanate, sufficiently washing the resultant fiber with water and then drying the washed fiber. The resultant fiber supports an insoluble ferrocyanide and has as ion exchange ability.
