Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber suitable for incorporation in the cloths for sterile garments to be subjected to radiation sterilization, by spinning and drawing, under specified conditions, a conjugated fiber made up of white electrically conductive fine particle-incorporated polybutylene terephthalate and an aromatic copolyester. CONSTITUTION:A conjugate fiber made up of (A) white electrically conductive fine particle (pref. titanium dioxide particles coated with tin dioxide)- incorporated polybutylene terephthalate and (B) an aromatic copolyester outstanding in fiber formability with a melting point of 200-240 deg.C [pref. poly(ethylene terephthalate/isophthalate)] is spun at <=260 deg.C, wound at a speed of >=3,000m/min followed by drawing by a factor of 1.02-1.35 at temperatures higher than the glass transition point of the component B by 40-90 deg.C, thus obtaining the objective fiber with an electrical resistance of <=5X10<8>OMEGA/cm.
