Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent fading of images or ground color development or discoloration from occurring due to light, temperature, moisture or an oil or fat such as fingerprints, by incorporating an UV absorber and a butane derivative having a specified structure, in a thermal recording material utilizing a color forming reaction between a leuco dye and a color developer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material comprises a UV absorber and 1,1,3-tris(2'-methyl-4-hydroxy-5'-cyclohexylphenyl)butane, which make the thermal recording material an excellent thermal recording material having high brightness and sensitivity and being free of fading of recorded images or ground color development or discoloration due to light, temperature, moisture or an oil or fat. The UV absorber may be appropriately selected from a variety of known UV absorbers, e.g., 2-(2'-hydroxy-5'-methylphenyl)benzotriazole. The thermal recording material include all those based on conventionally known constructions utilizing a color forming reaction between a leuco dye and a color developer. Both of the UV absorber and the butane derivative may be incorporated in a thermal color forming layer, or may be incorporated in an undercoat layer between a base and the thermal color forming layer or in an overcoat layer on the thermal color forming layer.
