Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head capable of high speed recording at low cost by forming a highly electroinsulative alumite layer and coating an area of the alumite layer where at least, a heat generating body is formed, with 0.5mum-10mum thick heat-resistant resin using means such as printing and application. CONSTITUTION:An alumite layer 12 is formed by means of anode oxidation, at least on an area where a heat generating body and a discrete wiring pattern are formed of an aluminum sheet 11. Then a heat-resistant resin layer is formed in the membrane thickness of more than 0.5mum and less than 10mum at least on an area where a heat generating body is formed of the alumite layer. Even the thickness of about 6mum of the alumite layer is sufficient. Since the alumite layer 12 has satisfactory thermoconductivity, no restrictions exist for the thickness of a formed membrane in reference to the characteristics of the thermal head. However the thicker the membrane becomes, the longer anode oxidation time, hence a deterioration of productivity. Therefore, 6mum-30mum are the thickness of an ideal membrane. A coat of polyimide 13 is formed in the thickness of 0.5mum-10mum as a heat-resistant resin layer on an area where a heat- generating body is formed of the substrate using a roll coater.
