CONSTITUTION:In a reactive power compensator in which a light direct ignition thyristor is antiparallel-connected in series with a reactor, ignition pulses (d) in specified width are transmitted over a light activated thyristor 7U under the AND conditions (c) of an ignition command DEB and timing PHS corresponding to a phase-control angle. The ignition pulses (d) in specified width are transmitted even under the AND conditions (a) of the ignition command DEB, the timing PHS and the forward voltage detecting signal FV of the thy ristor 7U. Accordingly, continuous currents can be flowed through the reactor, and restriking is enabled even when currents are interrupted as a transient state.
