Abstract

PURPOSE:To hold a photodetecting level nearly constant even if signal light varies in wavelength by controlling the reflection characteristics of a filter electrically. CONSTITUTION:The filter 111 can vary wavelength 2neLAMBDA (LAMBDA: diffraction grating period of filter 111, ne: effective refractive index of filter 111) corresponding to the largest reflection factor. Namely, even if the wavelength lambda1 of signal light varies, the impressed current of the filter 111 is controlled a control circuit 131 while the mean photocurrent of a photodetecting element A is monitored so that the photocurrent is maximum, thereby controlling the effective refractive index ne of the filter 111. Consequently, the level of signal light made incident on the photodetecting element A is held nearly constant even if the signal light varies in wavelength.
