Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve knocking detection accuracy by varying the frequency band or reference level of a knocking sensor according to the temperature of exhaust gas, etc. CONSTITUTION:The output of a knocking sensor 1 which is mounted on the cylinder block, etc., of the engine and detects vibration is inputted to a multiplexer 5 through an amplifying circuit 2 and a 1st filter of 12kHz peak frequency or 2nd filter 4 of 14kHz peak frequency. A control unit 7 controls the multiplexer 5 so that the output of the 1st filter 3 when the output of an exhaust gas sensor 8 is <=700 deg.C or the output of the 2nd filter 4 when >=700 deg.C is selected and inputted to a peak holding circuit 6. The control unit 7 performs knocking detection according to the output of a peak holding circuit 6. The knocking frequency varies with the combustion temperature and pressure in the engine, so the accurate detection is performed by varying the frequency band according the exhaust gas temperature and suction pressure.
