Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease power consumption at the time of an intense external light and to obtain a bright image even at the time of a feeble external light by holding respectively a liquid crystal panel, a diffusion plate and a lens movable to one member, a white light source and a reflection plate movable to the other member, and the reflection plate movable to both members and making the relative position of the two members variable. CONSTITUTION:A transmission type light valve, a diffusion plate 11 and a lens 5 are held by a member 6, a white light source 3 and a reflection plate P are held by a member 7 and a reflection plate 9 is held movable in a rotary direction through the member 6 or the member 7 and a pivot 8. When the titled device is used at a place at which the external light cannot be obtained sufficiently, the image is generated by using the white light source 3. Light from the white light source 3 reaches a liquid crystal panel 1 through a diffusion plate 2 and the light and shade of a picture element can be seen as the picture through the lens 5. When the member 7 is relatively separated from the member 6, the external light is used by using the reflection plate 9 and the external light is made incident on the diffusion plate 2 through the reflection plate 9, the light and shadow of the picture element of the panel 1 can be seen as the picture. In this case, a power is not supplied to the white light source.
