Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the heat damage of a semiconductor laser and data destruction in an optical disk, etc., from being generated, by cutting off current supply to the semiconductor laser compulsorily when a light quantity detected at the light quantity detection circuit of the semiconductor laser decreases under an allowable lower limit. CONSTITUTION:The light quantity of laser light outputted from the semiconductor laser 6 is detected at the light quantity detection circuit 22, and is inputted to a feedback circuit. The feedback circuit controls the output current of a power source supply circuit 21 so that an inputted light quantity can be set at a regulated value. And when a certain kind of abnormality is generated and the light quantity outputted from the light quantity detection circuit 22 is decreased under the allowable lower limit, a control circuit 25 is operated, then, the output current of the current supply circuit 21 is cut off. In such a way, it is possible to prevent the heat damage of the semiconductor laser 6 and the data destruction in the optical disk from being generated even when the abnormality is generated in the light quantity detection circuit 22 of the semiconductor laser, and to improve the reliability the whole of an optical disk device.
