Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer useful as a disc for optical information recording, having excellent optical characteristics, heat resistance and transparency, comprising 1,1-bis(4-hydroxy-3-tertiary butylphenyl)-1-phenylethane as bihydric phenolic component. CONSTITUTION:1,1-Bis(4-hydroxy-3-tertiary butylphenyl)-1-phenylethane shown by formula I is blended with diphenyl carbonate, heated to 160 deg.c, melted, incorporated with a phenol solution of potassium boron hydride as a carbonating catalyst, heated and reacted under reduced pressure and condensed for 1.5hr by gradually heating to 220 deg.C and reducing pressure to 0.1-0.3Torr to give the aimed polymer having a repeating unit shown by formula II (n is degree of polymerization).
