Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled material capable of injection molding, outstanding in moldability, fluidity, transparency and optical properties, suitable for lenses, optical memory discs, etc., consisting of an aromatic polycarbonate prepared using a fluorine-contg. monofunctional phenol as the terminator. CONSTITUTION:The objective material consisting of an aromatic polycarbonate which has a mol.wt. of pref. 10,500-16,000 and can be obtained by reaction between a bisphenol compound such as bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)methane and phosgene using, as the terminator, a fluorine-contg. monofunctional phenol {pref. of formula I [R1 is 1-6C alkyl; l is 0-4; m is 0 or 1; R2 is a group of formula II (n is 0-18; X is H or F)]; e.g. m-fluorophenol}.
