Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the simultaneous switching of multiple optical fibers by forming a 1st ferrule in such a manner that a fitting pin can be moved in a specific direction by a specific distance in the pin hole of said ferrule and moving the 1st and 2nd ferrules relatively to each other. CONSTITUTION:The 1st and 2nd ferrules 11, 12 are butted against each other in such a manner that the fitting pin 13 is held inserted into both the pin holes 16, 18 thereof through the holes. While the 2nd ferrule 12 is fixed to a home position by a housing 19, the 1st ferrule 11 is movable vertically in the housing 19. Namely, the 1st ferrule 11 is pulled downward by a tension spring 2 and is positioned by the fitting pin 13 and the upper optical fibers 14a are opposed to the optical fibers 17 on the 2nd ferrule 12 side while a solenoid 20 is not held energized. The 1st ferrule 11 is attracted by an iron piece 22 fixed to the front face thereof and is again positioned by the pin 13 when the solenoid 20 is energized. This time the lower optical fibers 15a are then opposed to the optical fibers 17a. The simultaneous switching of the multiple optical fibers is thus executed by turning on or off the solenoid 20.
