Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the read operation by extracting respectively a picture of a prescribed area of one side of a document based on the output of a reflected light and a picture of at an area opposed to the prescribed area of the other side of the document based on the difference between the output of the transmitted light and that of the reflected light. CONSTITUTION:A 1st light source section 1 is arranged to radiate a 1st face 81 of a document 8 and to radiate a 2nd face 82 of the other side. An image pickup section 3 has its optical axis nearly perpendicular to the document 8 and receives the reflected light by the 1st light source 1 and the transmitted light by a 2nd light source 2 from a prescribed range around a cross point between the optical axis and the document 8. A video signal being an output of the image pickup section 3 is sent to a read section 4 via a pre-processing circuit and an A/D converter (not shown) and a read signal being an output of the read section 4 is displayed on a display section 6. The position of the document 8 is changed properly by a moving section 7 comprising a drive motor and a feeding roller and the area to be read is opposed sequentially to the image pickup section 3.
