Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain specified stretching conditions and to uniformize the characteristics of optical fibers by adopting the constitution consisting in measuring the moving amt. of a supporting base for the optical fibers to be heated, spliced and stretched and controlling the tension to be imparted to the optical fibers to the specified tension by a controller. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate point of the optical fibers 1A, 2A supported by freely movable supporting bases 3, 4 is heated and spliced by a heating device and is stretched. The supporting bases 3, 4 are moved outward by a magnet 23 by energizing winding cores 21 of driving means 16, 17 and the moving amt. thereof is measured by measuring means 3B, 4B and is inputted to the controller 10 which controls a current source 25 for energizing the cores 21. The controller 10, therefore, controls the traction power to stretch the optical fibers to gradually lower the traction force according to the moving amt. of the supporting bases 3, 4 and with lapse of time, thereby maintaining the specified tension per unit sectional area of the optical fibers. The stretching conditions are thus maintained constant and the characteristics of the optical fibers are uniformized.
