Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a sheet excellent in absorptivity of condensed water, by forming a film of a coating composition based on a (poly)tetraalkoxysilane on the surface of a plastic support and subjecting the film surface to hydrolysis. CONSTITUTION:A film of a coating composition based on a monomer or polymer of a tetraalkoxysilane (e.g., tetramethoxysilane or tetraethoxysilane) and optionally containing a surfactant, an organic solvent, etc. is formed on the surface of a plastic support (e.g., vinyl chloride resin sheet). The coated surface is subjected to hydrolysis by, for example, immersing it in warm water or bringing it into contact with steam, to form inorganic silica which is porous and excels in water absorptivity on the surface of the plastic support. The obtained sheet which absorbs condensed water can be suitably used to absorb water condensed on the wall of a building and can be used repeatedly by drying it after use.
