Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain microparticles having a narrow particle diameter distribution, a controlled particle diameter and a mean particle diameter <=10mu, by dividing a polymer solution into particles, bringing these particles into contact with a nonsolvent and separating and drying them with a spray drier. CONSTITUTION:A solution of a polymer in a solvent is divided into particles, which are brought into contact with a nonsolvent which does not dissolve the polymer but dissolves the solvent to coagulate the polymer. The obtained dispersion of polymer microparticles is dried by separating the polymer from the solvent with a spray drier. Any polymer soluble in a solvent can be used as said polymer, and examples thereof include polyacrylonitrile and polymethyl methacrylate. Any solvent that can dissolve the polymer can be used as said solvent, and any nonsolvent can be used as said nonsolvent without any limitation so far as it does not dissolve the polymer but is compatible with the solvent.
