Abstract

1460069 Fluidized bed granulating DR KARL THOMAE GmbH 15 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 36011/74 Heading B5A Granules are formed by spraying a bonding liquid on to particles in a fluidized bed 26 to cause the particles to agglomerate whilst breaking up the agglomerations by rotating or oscillating members to limit the maximum size of the granules formed at high spraying rates. Particles are placed in a container 1 and fluidized by air blown through the base 4. Binder is sprayed by compressed air through a nozzle 5 on to the bed and one or more sets of blades 25 are rotated close to the base of the bed. The fluidizing air passes through a filter 17 and a heater 18 and may be heated to a higher temperature to dry the granules after agglomeration. The air is extracted through a filter 19 by a fan 15. Lactose and Aerosil (Registered Trade Mark) are sprayed with glycerine and gelatine solution. Starch, polyvinyl pyrolidone or an inorganic binder may be used.
