Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the carrier being inexpensive and having durability and good biofilm capacity, by constituting main components of an artificial fiber like inorg. substance, a powdery inorg. substance and a durable bonding component, and setting the average diameter of the viods contained in the carrier to a specific range. CONSTITUTION:Main components consist of 100-20pts.wt. of an artificial fiber like inorg. substance such as a glass fiber, 0-80pts.wt. of a powdery inorg. substance such as silica and 1-50pts.wt. of a durable binding component such as a polyvinylidene chloride resin emulsion and the average diameter of contained voids is set to 0.5-300mum to form a carrier having a sheet like three- dimensional structure. This sheet like carrier is formed by a wet papermaking method or a method corresponding thereto. As a result, the inexpensive carrier for a water treatment biofilm having durability and good biofilm capacity is obtained and can be effectively put to practical use in a wide range of water treatment equipments of the treatment of household excretion and various living waste waters, and waste water treatment of an agricultural community, sewage treatment or tap water treatment.
