Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesiveness of microorganisms to air holes in a biomembrane carrier for waste water treatment and improve the durability of said carrier by composing the carrier mainly of the artificial fibriform and the powdery inorganic substances and durable bonding components on a weight part basis and by making the average diameter of the air holes contained in the carrier 0.5-30mum. CONSTITUTION:A biomembrane carrier for water treatment consists mainly of 100-20pts.wt. of artificial fibriform inorganic substances, 0-80pts.wt. of powdery inorganic substances and 1-50pts.wt. of durable bonding components and the average diameter of air holes included therein is 0.5-300mum. The use of the artificial fibriform and the powdery inorganic substances makes the carrier affinitive for microorganisms, easy to fix, more durable against living material, and difficult to swell by solutions. Also, by using the durable bonding components, the carrier cannot be easily decomposed by the microorganisms and becomes higher in resistance to chemicals.
