Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material excellent in stability of developed color images and high in ground brightness, by using a specified phenolic sulfone compound as a color developer. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic sulfone compound of formula I, wherein R is a substd. or unsubstd. aralkyl, is used as a color developer, in a thermal recording material utilizing a color forming reaction between a leuco dye and a color developer. Examples of the compound include compounds of formula II. At least one leuco dye is used either singly or in combination. For example, a leuco dye based on triphenylmethane, fluoran, phenothiazine, auramine, spiropyran or indolinophthalide is preferably used as the leuco dye. Further, an electron-acceptive compound, e.g., a phenolic compound, a thiophenol compound, a thiourea derivative or an organic acid or a metallic salt thereof can be jointly used, as required. The thermal recording material can be produced by supporting the leuco dye, the color developer and auxiliary constituents in a bound state on a base.
