Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the starting of an engine, by a method wherein, during the starting of an engine when a failure in operation of a water temperature sensor is detected, a fuel injection amount is increased for correction based on a set value during starting, and a fuel injection amount is corrected based on a set value after starting. CONSTITUTION:In a device which controls a fuel injection valve 4 by means of a fuel injection amount computed based on output signals from various sensors containing a water temperature sensor 6, a trouble detecting means 13 to detect abnormality on the water temperature sensor 6 is provided. During detection of a failure in operation of the water temperature sensor, it is discriminated by an engine state discriminating means 14 whether an engine 1 state is during starting or after starting. When it is discriminated that the engine state is during starting, an input signal from the water temperature sensor 6 is switched to a set value during starting by means of a means 15 to correct during-starting, and a fuel injection amount is increased for correction by means of a set value during starting. Meanwhile, when it is discriminated that the engine state is after starting, a fuel injection amount is corrected in a similar manner described above by means of a set value after starting by using a means 16 to correct after starting.
