Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable diagnosis of fault even when a detected value is close to an actual atmospheric pressure by calculating a maximum differential altitude corresponding to driving distance of the vehicle and judging that an atmospheric pressure sensor is defective if variation of value detected through the atmospheric pressure sensor exceeds over a maximum differential altitude. CONSTITUTION:Means MB for detecting driving distance of the vehicle is provided to a device for diagnosing malfunction of an atmospheric pressure sensor MA mounted on the vehicle. Means MC for calculating a maximum differential altitude corresponding to the driving distance is also provided. Furthermore, means MD for calculating variation of value detected through the atmospheric pressure sensor MA corresponding to the driving distance is provided. Means ME for judging that the atmospheric pressure sensor MA is defective if the variation of detected value is higher than the maximum differential altitude is provided. Consequently, malfunction of the atmospheric pressure sensor MA can be determined even when detection value of the atmospheric pressure sensor MA is close to an actual atmospheric pressure, if the detection value varies more than a level corresponding to the maximum differential altitude calculated from the driving distance.
