Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the cracking of the work with good accuracy during stress relieving by detecting the AE waves generated from the work with high S/N. CONSTITUTION:A sensor 5 for detecting AE waves is buried in a pressurizing bar 2, and an arm 6 is secured thereto. When the bar 2 descends and abuts on the work 1, a limit switch 9 is turned on by a projecting part 7, and conversely when it ascends, the limit switch 9 is turned off by the part 7. By this limit switch 9, the period I when there is possibility of generation of the AE wave by cracking in the work 1 and the period II when the AE waves other than those by the cracking are generated are set. Out of the output signals from a sensor 5 for AE wave detection, the AE signal generated in the period I is compared with the 1st prescribed value determined beforehand, whereby the presence or absence of the cracking is detected. The AE wave signal generated in the period II is compared with the 2nd prescribed value determined beforehand, whereby whether the detector itself is normal or not is diagnosed.
