Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the conflict of accesses to the free lists by using plural garbage collector means to secure linkage of cells contained in a memory space over plural partial spaces. CONSTITUTION:One of two types of free lists 20 and 22 serves as a local free list that is locally used by a specific garbage collector 14. While the other list serves as freely shared list that is globally used by all collectors 14. Each collector 14 connects cells to its proper list 30 and these cells are controlled by a pointer variable proper to each collector 14. As a result, no conflict occurs with a tail pointer variable Ftail. When the list 20 of a certain collector 14 reaches the capacity of the prescribed length, the cells of this collector 14 are connected to the global free list 22. Thus the conflicts are extremely decreased among collectors 14 in terms of the variable Ftail.
