Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the number of parts, provide a compact light transmission and improve a mounting property on a vehicle by connecting a selective constituent element of reaction element among the constituent elements of a planet gear mechanism to an one-way clutch to provide a brake between said element and a housing. CONSTITUTION:An one-way clutch 34 is turned on in a speed change stage (a first speed stage) where a clutch 38 is turned off, a brake 45 is applied to fix a second ring gear 22 to a housing 50 and act as a reaction member and in a speed change stage (a direct connection stage, i.e. third speed stage) where the clutch 38 is turned in to release the brake 46 respectively. The speed change to these speed change stages is carried out by a single one-way clutch 34 in the embodiment of one-way clutch-two brake or one-way clutch-two brakes. Thus, compared with prior transmissions, one of one-way clutches can be omitted and one of brakes provided in parallel to the one-way clutch for engine brake can be omitted.
