Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively remove stains of cotton-including clothing by treating it with an aqueous solution of both a specific alkali-proof cellulase and a tripolyphosphate (and/or a pyrophosphate) and then by treating it with an aqueous solution of both a peroxide and an orthophosphate. CONSTITUTION: This method comprises treating contaminated clothing including cotton with an aqueous solution of both an alkaline cellulase having an optimum pH value of >=7 (or an alkali-proof cellulase having >=50% relative activity to that in an optimal condition at >=pH 8) and a tripolyphosphate (and/or a pyrophosphate) at <45 deg.C and then to treat it with an aqueous solution of both a peroxide and an orthophosphate at >=45 deg.C and effectively removing stains hiding inside clothing. It is preferable that the concentration of the cellulase in the treating solution is >=1 ppm, especially 3-300 ppm and that the concentration of a condensed phosphate is 50-3,000 ppm, especially 100-2,000 ppm.
