Abstract
PURPOSE: To decompose and remove H2O2 effectively, by a procedure in which an H2O2-containing waste water is brought into contact with reduced iron attracted on a magnet under a specific pH condition in the presence, if necessary, of a carbonate such as Na2CO3 as decomposition aid.
CONSTITUTION: An H2O2-containing waste water, e.g, those discharged from a bleaching process for fiber, paper, pulp, and foods, a surface treatment of metals, waste water treatment process of the surface treatment, etc., is brought into contact with reduced iron adsorbed on a magnet under a pH condition of 5 or less in the presence, if necessary, of a carbonate such as Na2CO3 or NaHCO3 as decomposition aid. The preferred mount of the carbonate is 1W10pts.wt., more preferably 1W4 times the weight of the reduced iron. Thus, the supporting of the reduced iron is made easier owing to the use of the magnet and also the contact area of the reduced iron is made far grater. In addition, no escape of the reduced iron with treated liquid takes place.
