Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a density-variable reed made up of a row of slidable dents with variable mutual intervals and a row of plural gauge plates inserted into therebetween, and so designed as to afford any reed density without detaching a yarn off the read through altering the intervals through the direction of moving the gauge plates. CONSTITUTION: This density-variable reed works as follows: a fixture 8 for pressing mobile dents on a sliding rod 3 therefor is loosened to ensure them to be freely slidable followed by loosening a fixture 11 for a gauge plate holder; subsequently the gauge plate holder 6 is inserted at a position corresponding to a specified density while looking at a density-setting scale 9 and an indicator needle 10 for density scale followed by fixing the holder with the fixture 11; thereafter a row of the mobile dents are pressed to such a position that the respective edge faces 1a of the mobile dents 1 and gauge plates 2 come into film contact together over the whole width followed by fixing them with the fixture 8, thereby affording any desired reed density within a given range excellent in density accuracy and yarn holding force without detaching the yarn off the reeds.
