Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance reflectivity and obtain an output satisfactory as a reproduction signal, by providing on a substrate a recording layer comprising an indolenine having specified substituent groups A and A'. CONSTITUTION:A heat-mode direct-read-after-write type optical data recording medium for use as a compact disc is an optical data recording disc having, on a substrate, a recording layer comprising a cyanine coloring matter which is an indolenine cyanine of general formula [I] and in which, due to the substituent groups A and A', the wavelength corresponding to a maximum substrate incidence reflectivity (reflectivity or light incident from the substrate side) of the indolenine cyanine is in the range of 750-810nm. By using the cyanine coloring matter, it is possible to ensure that the maximum substrate incidence reflectivity in a semiconductor laser wavelength region of 750-810nm is, for example, at least 30%. In the formula, each of A and A' is an atomic group for forming substd. or unsubstd. benzene or naphthalene ring, each of R1 and R1' is a alkoxyl, X1<-> is a halide ion, perchlorate ion, fluoroborate ion or trifluoromethylcarboxylate ion, and B is pentamethine.
