Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to change the number of revolutions of a main spindle depending upon whether rough thread cutting or finish thread cutting is to be performed by providing a rotational reference point on the main spindle system of a lathe or on a workpiece, and further by setting a feed reference point based on the difference in angle measured from the rotational reference point to a thread cutting start point. CONSTITUTION:A thread cutting start point 3 is apart from a rotational reference point 7 by theta in angle. Based on this angular difference the reverse distance is corrected to set a reference distance L2, and the point B is set as a feed reference position. And, based on the reference distance L2 displayed on a display unit 38, a carriage 13 is moved so that the cuter edge 17 is placed in the feed reference position B. And the thread cutting work is commenced, meanwhile the feed of the carriage 13 is started by receiving the detected signal of the rotational reference point 7. The feed speed is equal to a set speed. Then the cutter edge 17 advances the reference distance L2 to reach the position A, and further advances to coincide with the thread cutting start point 3. And, the cutter edge 17 moves exactly along and on the rough thread having been previously cut to finish the thread.
