Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a characteristic of a superconducting switch and to reduce a cooling cost by a method wherein a cooling temperature of a superconducting coil is different from that of the superconducting switch. CONSTITUTION:A superconducting coil 1 is composed of a superconducting material such as a ceramic-related superconducting material or the like which is superconductive at a temperature of liquid nitrogen. This coil 1 is housed in a heat-insulating container 2 and is immersed in liquid nitrogen 7. A superconducting switch SC is housed in a heat-insulating container 8 of much smaller volume, and is cooled by liquid helium 3. This superconducting switch SC is composed of a metal-related superconducting material. Because the superconducting coil which is cooled economically by liquid nitrogen can be combined with the superconducting switch composed of the ceramic-related superconducting material and the metalrelated superconducting material, it is possible to obtain a superconducting coil system which is economical as a system and whose function is excellent.
