Abstract

PURPOSE:To complement an air pressure in a cuff to thereby keep the rate of air pressure fall constant, by conducting constant rate evacuation and air supply into the cuff simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:Blood pressure is measured while evacuating a cuff with a constant rate evacuation valve, and the rate of constant rate evacuation, S1, is compared with a preset evacuation rate, S0, by means of a pressure sensor and a microprocessor without interruption. When the S1 value is greater than the S0 value, the air is supplied to the cuff by means of a motor pump through an amplifier to bring the S1 value near to the S0 value. As a result the S1 values form a straight line approximating to that of the S0 values over a wide range from a high air pressure to a low air pressure, thus enabling accurate determination of both systolic and diastolic pressures in sphygmomanometry.
