Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve safety by providing an electrode body held at a positive potential to cover a radioactive isotope (RI) generating source which is held at a negative or ground potential. CONSTITUTION:The RI generating source 1 is grounded and a wire net 2 consisting of a stainless steel is provided as the electrode body to cover the front face thereof. The positive potential of about 5-100V/cm is applied from a DC power supply 3 to the wire net 2. An electrode 5 consisting of a metallic sheet is disposed to the upper part in a vessel 4 storing such source and net. A circular conical conductive layer 6 consisting of an aluminum cylinder is disposed to the side wall part of the vessel. The electrode 5 is normally held grounded to maintain the negative potential with the prescribed potential of the net 2. The undecaying particles diffused through the net 2 by the heat, etc., from the generating source 1 are attracted to the electrode 5 by the delayed decay RI in the particles and the electric fields in the vessel 4 consisting of the net 2 and the electrode 5, i.e., the electric lines of force running perpendicularly to the isopotential surface generated on the layer 6 are gathered on the plane of the electrode 5. The RI in the vessel 4, therefore, migrates along the electric lines of force and is captured on the electrode 5. The pattern of the net 2 is stopped down and projected on the layer 6 by autographic observation, by which the flying route of the RI is checked.
