Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical connector with which an increase in loss is low even in high-temp. and high-humidity environment with simple construction by forming the front end part of a ferrule into approximately hermetic structure so that the infiltration of the external moisture and gas is forbidden. CONSTITUTION:A 2nd cylindrical outside shape part 3 having the diameter larger than the diameter of a cylindrical outside shape part 2 at the front end of the ferrule for the optical connector is provided to the rear part of said outside shape part and a groove 4 is provided on the circumferential margin part of the 2nd cylindrical outside shape part 3. A ring 5 consisting of an elastic body is inserted into the circular groove 4. An adapter 6 has a circular hole which can be fitted with good accuracy to the 1st cylindrical outside shape part 2 of the ferrule for the optical connector and a circular hole of the bore to be fitted with a slight clearance to the 2nd cylindrical outside shape part 3 of the ferrule for the optical connector. The approximately hermetic structure can be constituted between the ring 5 inserted into the groove 4 and the adapter 6 if this ferrule for the optical connector is used for the optical connector.
