In recent passenger conveyors, driving machines are becoming more efficient and more compact in response to the need for power and space savings. Among these, there is a need for space saving that can make effective use of land and building space.
This is a challenge that must be accomplished without reducing the passenger conveyor's transport capacity and space for routine maintenance and inspection, and includes all equipment stored inside the passenger conveyor.

As shown in Fig. 1, the main structure is that a step 1 for carrying passengers and a moving handrail 2 are arranged in an endless manner, and each is driven at a predetermined speed by drive wheels 3 and 4. be. moreover,
A drive machine 6 consisting of a motor 6a and a speed reducer 6b is arranged in the machine room 5 provided above, and the step 1 and the movement are controlled by a chain 7 and a chain 8 that transmit the rotation of a gear 6c of this drive machine 6. It has a mechanism in which a rotating body such as a pickpocket 2 rotates. In addition,
The above components are supported by a sturdy main body frame 9,
Ultimately, it will be installed covered with a parapet 10 and an exterior board 11.

The overall width W 1 is set by adding the tooth width of the drive wheel 3 and the dimensions required to fix the drive wheel 3 to the width W of the step 1 (approximately 1 meter), which is 1.5 for a general passenger conveyor. It has become about 1.7 meters.

The total height H 1 is set to be approximately equal to the height H of the driving machine 6, and is generally about 1 to 1.2 meters, and this total height H 1 is extremely important for the following reason. In other words, if the height of the floor where the passenger conveyor is installed is HH (Figure 1), the height obtained by subtracting the total height H 1 from this HH (HH - H 1 ) is the height of the passerby on the lower floor. For example, if HH = 3 meters, this effective space will be 1.8 to 2 meters, which is an inconvenient height for passersby. In particular, when HH = 3 meters or less, traffic is severely restricted, and in some cases, it may even be impossible to install a passenger conveyor. Therefore, it is clear that the total height H 1 should be limited to the minimum necessary level since it will deprive users and passengers of the conveyor of convenience.

Here, the drive unit 6 is vertically elongated as shown (height H=1
The reason for this is that the speed reduction mechanism is a so-called worm speed reducer in which a worm gear 6e meshes with a vertically long worm shaft 6d as shown in FIG. In this case, the wormshaft 6d is a vertically elongated structure that is unsuitable for space saving, due to the addition of a structure (bearing, etc.) for shaft fixing below it and a motor 6a at the upper end. be.

etc. are usually placed in a crowded place. The electric appliance box 12 is connected to a lead-in line 14 that takes power from the building, an electric wire 15 that supplies power to the drive machine, and a power source 16 for various safety devices and lighting. Furthermore, from the oil supply device 13, pipes 17, 1

All the equipment in the machine room 5 as described above is efficiently arranged away from the reversal trajectory Q of step 1 (distance l in the case of the drive machine 6) to avoid interference with step 1, and as a result, daily maintenance is easy. The only space left for inspection is the S part shown in Figure 2, and it is not possible to secure enough work space for maintenance personnel.

In this case, since the electric appliance box 12 is also vertically long (h=approximately 1 meter) like the drive unit 6 described above, there is a problem in that the electric appliance box 12 will fall over if it is placed upright on the floor of the building. As a solution to this, it is possible to suppress the height h as much as possible and increase the width or width.
In the conventional structure, the drive unit 6 is disposed at the height of the main body frame 9, and the oil supply device 13 is also present, so this cannot be adopted, and this is a major drawback in terms of workability and safety for maintenance personnel.

It can be said that the conventional machine room 6 described above has serious problems as a passenger conveyor, such as restrictions on building floor dimensions due to the large height H, inconvenience of passage, and shortcomings in maintenance work.

6 to 8, the rotating bodies such as the step 1 and the moving handrail 2, as well as the structures such as the main body frame 9, the handrail 10 and the exterior plate 11 are the same as those of the prior art, but in the present invention, the machine room 5 It is characterized by the ability to effectively arrange equipment by changing the configuration of the equipment placed in the area. In detail, as shown in FIG. 7, the reducer constituting the drive unit 20 is meshed with helical gears 20a and 20b, and each gear shaft is arranged horizontally and parallelly, and parallel shafts are arranged in parallel in the horizontal direction. In addition to being a gear reducer, the input shaft 20c of this parallel shaft gear reducer is configured to be located at a position away from the step in the machine room.
The drive machine 20 is constructed by arranging the motor 23 horizontally at c and connecting its main shaft 23a, and the main shaft 23a of the motor 23 of this drive machine 20 avoids the rotation trajectory Q of the step in FIG. The drive machine 20 is installed in a position away from the step in the machine room 5, and above the motor 23 of the drive machine 20 is a horizontally long stability A good electrical appliance box 12 is provided.
The drive machine 20 has a gear 22 similar to the conventional one (equivalent to the conventional gear 6c), and the gear 22 is connected to the step 1 and the moving handrail 2 through the chains 7 and 8.
The mechanism is such that it gives rotation to the

Here, the drive machine 20 reduces the rotational speed of the motor 23 by meshing two to four helical gears 20a, etc. (two in the example), and is directly connected to the main shaft 23a of the motor 23. Since the input shaft 20c is provided, and the gear shafts including the input shaft 20c are arranged in parallel in the horizontal direction, the height ha thereof is approximately the diameter of the conventional worm gear 6e. It should be noted that the height h a of the drive machine 20 used in ordinary passenger conveyors can be limited to about 500 mm.

As a result, the actual dimension obtained by subtracting h a from the height H of the main body frame 9 is approximately 500 mm, and the electrical appliance box 21 is placed in the space of this extra height h b (H 1 - h a ).
is housed therein, and an oil supply device 24 is arranged on the side. In this case, even if the necessary equipment is arranged, there will be a margin of width L, so the horizontal axis of the appliance box 21 is increased by that amount, the height h c is decreased, and the height H 1 of the main body frame 9 is lowered. ing. When the appliance box 21 is placed on the floor of the building during maintenance, the sense of stability is greatly improved since it is formed along the horizontal axis.

In addition, since the input shaft 20c of the parallel shaft gear reducer is located on the side away from the step and connected to the motor 23, a relatively wide space is created between the step and the motor 23, which facilitates maintenance work. It can be done.

For example, the gears of the drive unit 20 are not limited to helical gears, but may also be spur gears, and in the final stage, a horizontally arranged parallel shaft gear reducer and a horizontal shaft arranged motor 23 are used to reduce the height H 1 of the main body frame 9. On the other hand, the height of the drive machine 20 is limited to approximately half, and the motor 2 of this drive machine 20 is
