Abstract
PURPOSE:To accomplish improvement of the working atmosphere and prevent the production of yellow turbid water, by forming sandy glass powder consisting mainly of a specific alkaline earth metal borate, containing specified proportion of the powder with specific size distribution. CONSTITUTION:The objective slag-treating agent i.e. glass powder consisting mainly of an alkaline earth metal borate of formula MeO.nB2O3 (Me is at least one kind of alkaline earth metal selected from Mg, Ca, Ba and Sr; n is mole number of 1-5), containing >=90wt.% of the powder with the size ranging from 0.1-5mm. When used as the slag-treating agent, this glass powder can be incorporated quickly into the molten slag to effect suppression of dust generation. Furthermore, because the S ion in the slag is substituted by B ion, the production of yellow turbid water can be prevented along with improvement of the working atmosphere.
