Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a format write release function and at the same time to improve the overall availability of a system, by adding an address information storing part and an erasion control means into a DASD control adaptor. CONSTITUTION:When a writing process is through with a track format, a controller 11 sends the address information on a track which performs an erasing action, the erasing subtrack number NIX and the head subtrack number NHS to an ADP 12 to instruct the start of the erasing action. An erasion control means 122 stores the address information and the subtrack number received from the controller 11 into an erasion information storing part 121 and performs an erasing action via a DASD 13a. If an index mark is detected while the DASD 13a is working, the DASD 13a sends the detected mark to the ADP 12. The means 122 decides the end of the erasing process as well as the end of a physical track based on said index mark and the subtrack number stored in the part 121 and informs the end of the each process to the controller 11. When these processes are continued, the next address is shown to the DASD 13a and the physical tracks are switched.
