Abstract

PURPOSE:To revise a sector length and the number of sectors while realizing a sector servo by generating a block signal from an index signal and a servo area signal by a timing generator and using the signal so as to control a format controller. CONSTITUTION:The timing signal generator 4 uses an index signal 8 outputted once by one revolution of a disk from a magnetic disk device 5 and a servo area signal 7 being at H for four servo areas only so as to send a block signal 6 to a format controller 2. The controller 2 recognizes one block being at H from the leading to the trailing of the signal 6 as if it were one track to apply formatting. In this case, the controller 2 uses a timing generator control signal 12 to control the timing generator 4 and uses a magnetic disk control signal A13 from the controller 2, a write gate signal 9 and a magnetic disk control signal B14 to control the magnetic disk device 5 thereby applying formatting of the magnetic disk.
